Long term behaviour of radionuclides and airborne pollutants in soil is an important issue because nowadays this compartment acts as a secondary source for pollutant discharge. Indeed, major pathway of transfer to man arise frombio availability of toxic substances. Furthermore, leaching in soil and transfer to water body may led to major contamination of underground and surface waters. Thus although the risk is not negligible, the long term behaviour of man made substances in soil is poorly known. To address this issue, we studied the hydrological and biogeochemical behaviour of natural isotopes as analogues of man made substances in natural ecosystems.
