ASTEC code system (Accident Source Term Evaluation Code) development by IRSN and GRS to simulate a Severe Accident (SA) in a LWR from the initiating event to the possible release of radioactive products outside the reactor containment  European reference code for the SARNET network of excellence. ASTEC code is used for IRSN PSA-2 studies on PWR 900 and 1300 MWe.
In parallel, ICARE/CATHARE mechanistic code system development by IRSN (coupling of core degradation IRSN code ICARE2 and thermalhydraulics French code CATHARE2) for detailed evaluation of SA consequences upon the LWR primary system.
The next generation V2 of ASTEC versions (2008) will include ICARE2.
